The towers directly facing the Haram. Covered walkways and a shopping concourse mean you can reach the courtyard without going out into the heat. The shortest walk you can buy, and priced accordingly.
Makkah
Everything in Makkah is measured by one thing: how far you are from the Haram, and how that distance feels five times a day.
The Haram
Masjid al-Haram sits at the centre of everything.
The mosque is open around the clock and the courtyard is busiest in the hour before and after each congregational prayer. Between those windows it is noticeably calmer — a useful thing to know if you are travelling with children or older parents.
Tawaf on the ground floor is closest to the Kaaba but the most crowded. The upper levels involve a longer circuit and more walking, but are easier to manage at busy times and are accessible for wheelchairs.
The marble is cooled, but the plazas are still warm during the day. Most travellers find themselves going out early in the morning and after Maghrib, resting in between.
Hotel areas
Three districts, three different days.
This is the single biggest decision you'll make in Makkah — not which hotel brand, but which district.
Jabal Omar
A large modern district on the opposite side, connected by walkways and lifts that bring you down toward the plaza. Quieter and more spacious than the complex, with a short walk each way.
Ajyad and the surrounding streets
Established hotels a genuine walk from the Haram, often with better value. Sensible if you are comfortable walking and want more room for your budget elsewhere.

A budget favourite with larger, suite-style rooms. Too far to walk — guests use the hotel's free 24-hour shuttle. Allow extra time at peak prayer times.
Proximity is described in plain language rather than exact distances, because walking times vary with the gate you use, the crowd and the time of day.
Getting around
You will mostly walk.
Within central Makkah, walking is usually faster than driving — roads around the Haram close and divert at prayer times. For Ziyarah outside the city, or for the journey to Madinah, a private vehicle or the Haramain railway is arranged in advance.
Planning notes
Worth knowing before you book.
- · Haram-view rooms cost considerably more; a room on a lower floor facing away is often the better value.
- · Check-in times can be late in peak season — plan your first prayer around it.
- · Families often do better with a residence or connecting rooms than one large room.
- · Ramadan changes everything: crowds, prices and the rhythm of the day.
